Homeschooling Family Printable

I wanted to put together something cute for my own use, that included some basic concepts // goals // reminders of why we homeschool. I love all the "Our Family..." signs and pictures that are floating around these days, but wanted something that included our choice to homeschool. There is so much negativity out there towards the concept of homeschooling, and so many reasons to get down on myself as a mother. I feel that reminding myself of the why and taking encouragement from the positives is a good way to stay focused!

Vintage Christmas Playbook (Free Printable)

My dad found this 1960 vintage Christmas playbook on Ebay that is exactly like the one he remembers playing with as a child! He likes it because it brings back happy Christmasy memories, I like it because it's vintagey and cool looking :) He painstakingly took the time to copy each page and cut large sheets of cardstock down to the original dimensions for the kids to cut out and put together. I figured if I was going to scan it and share with anyone, I had better shrink it down to legal size 8.5x14 to make it a little easier to print. Print for yourself and enjoy! Print on cardstock for the best results. Find it here: Vintage Christmas Playbook

Printable Book Report Page

Here's a free, basic book report page for the early reader! I created this really quickly the other day when my daughter finished a small book and I wanted her to fill out a brief summary page for it. I did a quick search for a book report page and found it hard to print one without first signing-in or creating some kind of account. So here this is, in case anyone out there needs one :)

Printable Lesson Planner Pages

Last year I used a all-inclusive curriculum package that came with a teacher's guide. I loved how the teacher's guide was laid out in boxes for each subject on a 2 page spread. This year, I have pieced together my curriculum and am putting together my own lesson plans.

I have purchased homeschooling notebooks and planners in the past and though they are cute, I never utilize half the stuff they come with! I just needed something basic (but cute!), that didn't involve tons of printing, but gave enough room for lots of notes. I came up with this format, and so far I am loving it! Download these to use for yourself! I created a 2 page spread that covers the whole week, as well as a more condensed version on one page. Each file also includes a book-list page and a weekly goals page.

Behavior Chart and School Store

I have to give credit to my friend Rachel for posting a photo of her behavior chart and reward system that she is implementing with her kids for school. I saw a picture of it during our first week of school, but didn't think much of it since everything was going so well! By our second week, I was revisiting her photo and frantically trying to recreate my own!

What we're doing:
  • We start out the day at "Ready to Learn"
  • Frequently, throughout the day, each child's name will be moved up and down the chart depending on how they are behaving.
  • I reserve "Excellent" status for really good behavior. I like that the bottom section says "Consequence" because this could be any number of things, you choose. Loss of privilege, time out, etc.
  • If a child ends the day at "Excellent" they earn 10 points
  • "Good Job" earns 5 points
  • "Ready to Learn" earns 1 point
  • "Warning" and "Consequence" earn 0 points
  • Points can be accumulated and used when we have a "shopping" day at the "store"
  • Prizes are priced from 20 points on up, based on their value (I got prizes from the Target dollar section, Dollar Tree and Five Below)

What you need for a Behavior Chart:
  • 1 Standard size poster board, cut in half lengthwise (this should make it 28.25" long and 11" wide)
  • Clothes pins for each child
  • My FREE Behavior Chart printable
  • Glue and Tape
  • Scissors
  • String
Cut out each page and glue to the poster board. If you use the cutting guidelines printed on each page, they should all fit perfectly on a single poster board. Use arrows to write your children's names and glue to clothespins. Attach a string to the top of the chart (for hanging) using tape or by punching holes.

I also got thinking that this would work great in a Kids Church setting! I tweaked it just a little bit and have included it here in case anyone wants it: Church Behavior Chart

Father's Day Tie Banner Free Printable

We've posted a lot of links to really cute tie themed stuff for Father's Day - and I've seen many different banners people have made along the tie theme. I'd like to offer you a FREE printable version of this banner! Just click on the link to be directed to the file you can download for free. This is a PDF file that comes in a color version as well as the black and white (allow kids to color it in!). Print it off on paper (as I did) or card stock. Simply punch 2 holes in the top of each piece and string together using ribbon or twine. I couldn't find a hole punch, so I simply threaded a large needle with some ribbon and sewed them all together - super easy!

Mother's Day Printables and Craft Ideas

Mothers Day is this Sunday! We've been busy creating Unit Studies and Folder Games, and have totally overlooked posting anything about Mothers Day or coming up with a good original idea. But, for any dad's out there that may have forgotten and are now searching for a last minute idea, here's a really simple free print out from What's in the Bible:

For anyone that's a little bit more ambitious, there are a lot of really cute handmade card and gift ideas at this site that would work really well for Grandmothers too: The Crafty Crow: Mother's Day Crafts

Dear Dads and Kids,
Mom's don't expect a lot, it's the little things that mean the most (are you with me on that one, ladies?). Something simple that takes just a little bit of forethought can make a mom feel very appreciated. What I'm saying is (Listen up: these are some deep thoughts!), to put a little time into having your kids make a card or draw a picture, or write a poem. Something that shows thought, vs. buying a store bought card the morning of, or going out to eat when you could have planed on making her a meal yourself. Basically, think "what does my mom/wife do to show others she cares" and then try and do the same for her! :)

I Love You, a Bushel and a Peck

I could not resist...
When I saw this picture on Pinterest, I just had to replicate it for my wall! This is one of my Grandpa Cavanaugh's all-time favorite and most memorable sayings that he has greeted us with ever since I can remember. It means a lot to me, and I can't believe I had never thought to frame it before!

An old picture frame, some scrapbooking paper, and a sharpie paint pen later, and this is how mine turned out. I just free-handed the letters, so they turned out a little sloppy, but who cares! It's cute :)

Update 1-7-13: I've been thinking, I really should create a cute printable version of this sign! So here you go, an 8x10 image to print and frame. Simply right click on the image and select "save to computer"
